Today’s Op-Ed Change We Can Stomach goes through some arguments to encourage small farming. It reads a bit like a plea for those with money to continue spending it on high quality food, in an anything-that-gets-us-there kind of way. I wish he’d gone one step further and put us food growing gardeners into the story too.
Reading list: Monsanto’s Harvest of Fear in Vanity Fair
Set some time aside to read Monsato’s Harvest of Fear in this month’s Vanity Fair. It’s a mainstream media magazine article covering the history of Monsanto, their legal and political tactics, Roundup and GM Roundup Ready seed, PCBs and bovine growth hormone. It’s a good overview and a good place to start if you’re not already familiar with this story.

EU and biofuels
Forgive the informality, but this article on the BBC, EU rethinks biofuels guidelines , is like so duh! what did you think was going to happen if you started using food for fuel (for something besides eating)? Finally some eyes are opened to the fact that these things are linked and the whole thing needs to stay balanced.
