Wikileaks Redirect

I’m sure everyone has been hearing about Wikileaks in the news lately.  While it’s probably a little technical for most people who read this blog, the domain name Wikileaks uses, wikileaks.org, has come under attack and will have to be shut down.

The Guardian newspaper has a good idea about how to help Wikileaks stay in the air and help protect it against future attacks, by as many people as possible adding a redirect on their website.  I have followed the suggestion given, and therefore Wikileaks can now be reached at the following URL:

  1. What would you do if Wikileaks presented a security threat to YOUR country or the men and women who serve YOUR country? Would you want me to put a redirect to a site that served as a threat to YOUR country on my blog or website? I’m a long time follower of your blog and I like the insight of learning about gardening from someone who doesn’t live in the same country as I do. So, I think you should reconsider coming to the aide of a site that serves to undermine the national security of another country. Please reconsider.

    Best regards,
    Chris

  2. Hi Chris,

Thanks for your comment. While I don’t agree with you, I appreciate you took the time to leave a comment, and your opinion is very welcome here.

First of all, you are very much talking about OUR country. I am a US citizen, I only live in Holland.

I don’t agree with you that Wikileaks is a threat to the security of the US, or to any people serving in the armed forces. I haven’t seen any credible evidence for this. What Wikileaks is doing is probably illegal in the US, but not very many other places in the world.

Wikileaks is causing a lot of red faces and upsetting a lot of people. A lot of governments may have to change the way they do things. The world will also know a lot more about how governments really work. I don’t think any of these things are bad. I think it will be a good thing if Wikileaks makes governments more transparent.

I’m not a true journalist, but I do publish information here, and I do believe in the right of others to publish things too. I very much support Wikileaks in this sense.

As far as this redirect, it’s little more than symbolic at the moment. Not many people are actually using it, nor do I expect a lot of people to use it in the future. I doubt Wikileaks even knows it’s there.

I’m not going to remove it, but you shouldn’t think of it as any major threat either. I hope you keep reading this blog anyway, and I hope you keep letting me know what you think about what I write.

  3. The only threat that comes to our security in the United States is the actions of our Government agency’s when they perform “secret meetings” and “secret actions”. Look up the involvement of Government agency’s in South American Country’s with the propping up of Cartels who hold “American views” above all else.
We also caught the back lash of Government selling arms to these country’s to arm their military soldiers who later defect, taking all the U.S. Government stamped arms with them to join the Mexican drug cartels. Which later the elected and esteemed officials in this country turn around and blamed it on 50 gun shops and gun smiths on the u.s. Mexican border, along with everyone else in the United States. Even Billy Boy O’Reilly slid down that sucker slope!

We can go further back, (which was recently uncovered in the news) where The U.S. Government with the Co-operation of The Guatemalan government, for U.S. scientist to inject and expose citizens of Guatemala (who are institutionalized) with STD’s and other forms of diseases, then later instructed to go out and mix with the general population and infect them with STD’s.

War is a racket is indeed a proper term when it comes to nation building and intervening in foreign affairs.

    On a side note:
IED is a CIA invention taught to certain people in another country when Russia invaded.

Further more the gist of trying the founder of wiki leaks on charges of treason to the United States is laughable! As being the founder is not an American Citizen. The diatribe from Huckabee uttering Wiki leaks people need to be assassinated by the U.S. Government is treason in on it self.
The new patriot act (signed & voted with bi-partisanship) around the same time the health care bill was being vetted and fought over early in the 2010 year. Is wholly unconstitutional when a law is put into motion of assassinating American citizens who are suspected of being a “terrorist”. Recall the right wing extremist and left wing extremist reports that got leaked in the 2010 year.
    (Very Stalinistic!)

Freedom of speech never under minded my security while I was in service, and it never did when my father, grandfather, great uncles were in service. Even they find it abhorrent the actions of this old mans Army is partaking in. My great uncle who served in the golden arrow 8th army hurricane Div.(Battle of the bulge veteran) said “I don’t know why our military is behaving and acting like the Nazi’s I was sent to fight”

So to Chris and Patrick. My national security does not lean totally on Government, but solely lays upon every persons natural right to defend them self, their family, loved ones and those who are incapable to defend themselves.

The only security wiki leaks hurts is the security of those few who profit from war.

As American citizens we have a right and duty to know the good and the bad in the actions of “our government” and “our military”

A free nation with a free society does not have secrets. Remember the government and it’s armed services represent you and every citizen in this country. It is our duty and right to know these things, in any way possible due to the lies and deceit of those in power over this country, do you really think they government is going to be so forthcoming, open and honest?

    Something to ponder about.

    Respectfully
    Sweet Tater.
