My garlic scapes are really late this year!
This is one of the first and it’s only emerged in the last few days. We had a cold spring, and I used more straw mulch than usual this year. Otherwise I haven’t been doing anything unusual.
No sign of garlic rust yet either! The weather has been unusually cold, then very dry, so perhaps that’s working in my favor this year.
Same over here, but no straw: black plastic mulch (with holes every 15 cm) may be ugly & unnatural, but it’s so efficient.
We had early scapes this year because of an unusually warm spring.
Garlic scape flavor and can be used in a number of different recipes. Simply grind them up with almonds, Parmesan, olive oil and sea salt and you’ve got a pesto.
Hi VG,
Thanks for you comment, and your blog looks great. I don’t know of any gardening blogs with their own YouTube channel! Your first video was really well done.
Good luck with everything, and thanks for stopping by.
