This is the first year growing Heritage Sweet White Multiplier that Søren sent me. It’s just started developing topsets. Does anyone know if this is normal? The weather has been very dry here, and these have been growing in an unwatered raised bed. Is it just because they are stressed from the dryness?
Are they new plantings? A number of times when I’ve transplanted alliums, or planted out alliums given to me, I’ve noticed that their normal rhythm is upset. It restores itself the following season. I’m not saying this is what’s going with yours. It’s just an observation I’ve made, and it doesn’t happen every time.
Hi Ray,
You could be right. They are new plantings. Thanks for the suggestion.
I guess it’s quite normal for this variety. I just found a photo taken last year on April 25th. with the top-setting even further developed.

I think it is a reaction to day length. Onions are known to be day length sensitive.
