In case there was any doubt that foods we buy at the supermarket are boring products of mono-culture, which pales in comparison to heirloom and OP varieties we grow ourselves, have a look at the corn Allan Jenkins grew on the Observer Organic Allotment!
Baby Blue Jade and multi-colored Painted Mountain sweet corn. Amazing colors!
I got sent painted mountain corn when a seed company ran out of a sorghum variety that I had requested. I grew it half heartily but it turned out to be a treasure. However, I wouldn’t normally grow corn in my garden because for space to yield I prefer the squash but it was a fantastic variety. Here’s some back story on it: http://www.seedweneed.com/index-1.html
Hi OG:
There’s a big difference between Painted Mountain, and Painted Mountain sweet corn! The sweet corn version has only been around for a couple of years I think, and was made by crossing the original Painted Mountain with another sweet corn variety.
Oops, I thought that it was a painted mountain dent/flint corn that I posted about!
