Vandana Shiva Speaks out Again on Farmer Suicides in India

May 1, 2009 · Filed Under Political, Seeds

Vandana Shiva recently spoke out again in a Huffington Post article on farmer suicides in India.

Just like the meat industry trying to make us forget Swine Flu originated in their products, Monsanto and other seed companies are trying to make us forget their GM seeds have caused the death of hundreds of thousands of farmers in India by sponsoring a recent ‘scientific study’ that proved there was no connection.

It’s very important to maintain our resolve and continue to hold these companies responsible for their actions.  It’s important to keep talking about these things, and keep pressing for change.

I’m always in for Monsanto bashing. ;)

Can you make it a bit easier for Monsanto bashers by linking to the ‘scientific study’ you mention? I couldn’t find it in the Vandana Shiva article either.

Hi Ohran, thanks for the comments!

Jeremy, thanks for pointing out the missing link. I’ve added it, but you were the one who first pointed it out to me and we discussed it already here:

In any case, I’m sure you’ve seen it already. I guess it wasn’t that recent, from 6 months ago.

Except that now it looks like maybe this “Swine Flu” not only didn’t have anything to do with Pigs, but may well be entirely Man-made! http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aShZig0Cig4g (Just like all those Monsanto seeds.)

No good can come from all this!

I think that it is possible for good to come of this. Though to contemplate it is rather horrible. But if there was a decimation of humans, on a wide huge scale, the earth would have a chance to recover. IF humans survived, they to would have an opportunity to “re-evolve” and PERHAPS be better than we are today? So many ifs and so much sorrow and pain, would it be worth it? On the other hand, as a professing christian, I have to ponder if the increasing immenence of impending peril and doom are the beginnings of the end of the world?

I don’t really like seeing things that way because of my children and grandchildren. On the other hand it does cause me to raise my kids with greater awareness of their surroundings than I ever was. I am much more focused on disipline and self-control because I see those qualities as vital to survival. Bottom line, it’s scary yet must be dealt with.
